Public Services Librarian, Senior at Gladys Harrington Public Library

September 2018 to Present

As a public services librarian, senior, I provide library services to the general public, responding to our unique community needs by providing education, information, and library resources.  Specific tasks include:

  • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate classes and programs for children, teens, and adults in both internal and outreach settings.
  • Prepare and present story times weekly for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students in both internal and outreach settings.
  • Serve as the Family Place Coordinator, developing community resource connections and facilitating Family Place Playgroups.
  • Serve as the Early Literacy Training Committee representative for the building, developing best practices for mentoring new story time staff and creating consistency in presentations of story times for all ages
  • Create displays and resources to market library materials and programs, including content for inclusion on the library’s blogs.
  • Serve on the Friends Funded Programming Committee, selecting and booking library performers for all ages across the system in accordance with city procedures.
  • Assist with collection maintenance, including review of print and electronic materials, and identify materials to be withdrawn or repaired.
  • Assist with patron complaints, concerns, and research requests and provide guidance to patrons in the use of facilities, services, materials, and resources.

As a public services librarian, I provided library services to the general public, responding to our unique community needs by providing education, information, and library resources.  Specific tasks included:

  • Planned, coordinated, conducted, and evaluated classes and programs, with a focus on programming for children, teens, adults, and families.
  • Prepared and presented story times for all ages, from birth to elementary school, in both internal and outreach settings.
  • Served as the Family Place Coordinator, planning and facilitating Parent/Child Playgroups, developing and maintaining community resource connections, and providing relevant resources to parents and caregivers.
  • Provided guidance to patrons in the use of facilities, services, materials, and other resources.
  • Assisted with collection maintenance, including review of print and electronic materials, and helped identify materials to be withdrawn.
  • Provided reference and advisory services to patrons to assist with the identification and selection of materials.
  • Created displays to market library materials and programs.
  • Served as the coordinator for the branch iPad minis, including adding apps, syncing and charging devices, and staff training.
  • Served on the STEAM Programming Committee for the system, assisting with the development, selection, implementation, and evaluation of STEAM-based programming across the system.
  • Served on the Family Programming Committee for the system, assisting with the selection and booking of library performers for entertainment and education across the system.
  • Wrote content for inclusion on the library’s blog and participated in library social media to build an engaging online presence in the community.
  • Coordinated activities in the public spaces of the library.
