August 2009 to December 2009
I completed 120+ hours as a library intern to fulfill my practicum requirements as a library science student. Specific tasks included:
- Observed and assisted patrons at both the adult and youth reference desks with various inquiries.
- Observed and participated in presenting special programming for youth and story times for different age levels.
- Received training with all library departments and policies and assisted with departmental tasks.
- Attended relevant department meetings and training sessions.
Story Time Presenter at Homestead Elementary School
2008 to 2010
As a volunteer story time presenter, I selected and prepared story readings based on the first grade curriculum, seasons, and student interests. I also assisted in selecting materials to accompany class lessons throughout the week.
Classroom Library Organizer at Homestead Elementary School
2006 to 2010
As a volunteer, I classified and organized a first-grade classroom library, including a classification scheme and color-coding label system for books and accompanying online catalog via LibraryThing. I also assisted with creating an electronic catalog for classroom materials based on an existing organizational system.
